Golden Willow Leaf Saber
This variety of sword was usually carried by the “Royal Eight Flags” soldiers only (an administrative division at the county level) in the Ching Dynasty [1727- 1736]. At that time, the Royal court wanted to have soldiers with Manchurian blood within the “Eight Flags” rank. They used eight different colors to distinguish the different divisions of troops, the yellow color flag being the highest level, directly under the Empire’s command. The gold fittings of the sword were used for the imperial family, and the silver fittings were for high-ranked officers. This is a rare to stumble on a piece like this in almost prefect condition. This item is collector’s dream! Double fullers, one wide and one narrow run the length of the blade. Blade has light pitting but no nicks. Last portion of blade has a nicely shaped backedge. Blade has visible hardened edge and active pattern over entire length. All fittings are tight. Overall Length: 33 inches
