Secrets of Dit Da Jow (discussion)

Postby buddhafist on Tue Nov 08, 2011 3:25 am

Dit Da Jow seems to be cloaked under a veil of secrecy - why is that?

From what I experienced in the last months, I think it is mainly a secret, because few
people really know about jow. And those few are not always willing to share knowledge
(which I can understand in parts.) So, a herbalist of chinese medicine should be able
to easily create a new formula, is this right? Also, as more and more drugs are restricted
by law (and so old formulas cant be reproduced) there is a need for changes in the formulas.

And another question is coming up in my mind - what about the long-term application of jow?
Shouldn´t be the condition of each individual be considered in choosing a formula for training?
As far as I know, some herbs aim at specific body parts, this makes sense in case of ip training,
but there will remain an overall effect on the body?! And what about hot and cold jows?
Someone should write a book about Jow!

I have gathered knowledge on my own as well as being professionally trained as an Acupuncturist and Herbalist.

There is so much to understand about Chinese medicine that its not something you make a hobby of, though of course you can. You cannot play at being an herbalist. Unless you have been trained and licensed, you are playing a game.

I have heard all manner of old wives tales concerning making jow, and many of them are pure BS and unscientific. Others are spot on.

Herb interactions have to be understood.

Different herbs do different things to different parts of the body.

I can make a jow that goes to the head, I can make one that goes to the feet.

I can include more pain killing herbs, but you have to be careful as your liver enzymes can be raised using such herbs. So you always seek out a licensed health care professional( yes, acupuncturists are licensed through the states Board of Medicine in the USA) who can explain this to you.

Long term use has to be looked into somewhat. How much resins are in your formulas. Do you go overboard with them? Resins can also cause liver issues. You always have to be careful with the liver, as its the organ that deals directly with the blood.

So, would you recommend switching jows from time to time?

Or maybe at first switch them daily to check out if any differences can be seen or felt?

I would suggest using a formula for at least one month, and then if you want to try out other formula to do it at that time.
