My nieces and nephews have had three lessons now, and have fallen completely in love with Kung fu.I'd like to influence more people to come over to the power and grace of Kung Fu, alas I have only so far a reach. This makes about 20 converts I've given to the arts! Lessons here are 75.00 a month for one, two additional for 35.00 each and each additional family member for free. Since I'm an uncle I pay seperately for my membership, but I'm good with that. Also, just having someone to practice with is much more fun, even if they are just teenagers! And hey, I know they're going to recover faster than me, but I'm determined to keep up. Oh my back and knees ache though!
The school just moved from the location they were at for 20 or so years because the complex they were in was remodel8ing and kicked a bunch of it's tenants to the curb. This is a much less "kwoon" type of atmosphere, but it's coming along and it's still more family and less ceremony than a dojo. The mirrors are still laying against one of the corner walls, waiting to be put up.
These kids are good for me, they inspire me to push through my pain and keep going, something I wasn't doing enough of in my personal training. Still, I guess that just doing it with a smooshed sciatic nerve is pretty rare.
I'm still amused at the idea of a karate school that doesn't have striking shields or targets and won't allow contact during sparring?! My partner during the shield practice said afterward that even through the bag he felt like he was being hit by a car.
NJM, I'm a huge anime fan, but I agree with you that cartoons have no place influencing RL training.I don't mind people who are inspired by them or introduced to the arts by them (Or introduced by movies), but I'm blunt in stating that training like a cartoon character will make you look like a cartoon character. And spouting about cartoon arts as if they were real is the same. Radki is crap. If your arts come from cartoons that's what your skills are, fake, not real, and two dimensional. Hey, why not study video games?
"Haaaaaddoken!"
