Trying to keep the Ball Rolling.

Considering a previous topic posted by Mark about this site being quite and dead, I haven't started a discussion in a while, so I thought I would try.

Question: What are you currently working on within your training. What is a goal that you have set and are pursuing right now? Have you had to struggle and grind through it or has it been fairly easy for you?

(Just trying to get an insight of our personal selves and the things that are going on in our practice here recently.)

Train hard,
-Jeff

I'll go first.

I'm working within the frame work of Bagua, and the Drunken style that is found in the system that I train in. Trying to open a few more doors and understand a few more concepts. My personal goal is to be able to pull the two styles together where I can mix and match techniques at pure whim a whole lot easier than now. Not too difficult, just takes diligent practice and a little patience on my part. Still working on a few specialized skills to help pull myself up the developmental ladder of each said style.

Thanks,
-Jeff

Waist flexibility and jing generation from the feet. The two are connected, actually. My lateral and horizontal flexibility are good, but my rotational flexibility is terrible. As in facing forward in four six stance, my hips don't want to rotate forward, which in turn is from my back being so bad.The muscles are real stiff. :(
Whatever works- works.

Not much time to post but I thought I would add my 2 cents to keep the discussion going.

With the Hung Gar class I am teaching, we have spent the last 6 months on form and I find they have a decent grasp on structure and balance. Now I am working them on speed.

This means flowing the techniques while maintaining structure and balance. I've also added targets in the form of focus mitts and hand held punching bags.

Personally, I am working on speed too as well as exploring the sun style straight sword form.

Where you at? The Hung Gar school I'm attending is on 239 Schuyler ave. in Kingston PA. I will assume you're up here for business and family reasons. If you can ever get up here to join us for a night, let me know and I'll share the schedule. I can only show up 2 days a week, though. wed and sat.

And you're right, there's no civilization up here.

a grab is a strike...a strike is a grab...

Postby paul123a on Fri Nov 16, 2007 7:03 pm

Every time the hand/fist retracts in a form the odds are that the inner/deeper meaning is that there is something in that hand such as a wrist, a lapel, a sleeve or an opponent’s belt etc…. thus making all those applications involving stances like Mabu to Pubu that people don’t do in sparring…totally possible.

I’ve been working on implementing “a strike is a grab, a grab is a strike.” approach. IMO….This is more a Shuai Jiao concept instead of the standard “A block is a strike, a strike is a block.” punching and kicking viewpoint

I’m trying to get to the point where instinctively if I’m not striking or blocking/parrying… I’m grabbing.

After my Dad Passed away, we made plans to move my Mom to NJ to be closer to my Brother. She lives in Bath, next to Allentown. I am currently sitting in the Allentown Airport on Monday morning with 4 inches of snow on the ground!

Hey Big Brother Mark!

Tough times, all the best goes out to you.

If you spend anytime in NJ let me know. You know I live in CT...only a coupla hours away. I wouldn't mind introducing some of my students to their Big Uncle.

Sorry Orgelee, I didn't want to steal your thunder.

Ease on man,
