Lam Kwoon Uniforms

Postby JamesC on Tue Sep 28, 2004 7:38 pm

I'm not sure if you guys wear traditional uniforms at the dojo, but i've seen some really nice ones from the videos.

Who do you guys order them from? I think the best place that i've found for traditional uniforms is jonieuniforms.com

Actually, I think at least some of the uniforms from those videos came from the website you mentioned... the maker sounds familiar.

Bad Raven. What kind of marketing maven are you?
Of course all the uniforms came from WLE

Actually, Jonie used to supply the uniforms for WLE for a brief period. Early on, Sifu had a seamstress in SF that would make the uniforms. I've seen some of them and they were very nice. There was a period that the uniforms came from Hong Kong. I have been to that tailor. He specializes in Kung Fu wear and he was the original maker of the kung fu boot. I think he got too expensive so Sifu stopped using him.

I'm not sure where the uniforms come from now but *if* someone was going to film a new video or do a demo, that's where the uniform would come from. Like the one that Raven is wearing in his Icon :)

As for what we wear on a daily basis, http://www.wle.com//store/u_winglam.html
T-shirt (black or white) and pants. Sweatshirt if you are cold and Tank if you're hot. patches and bag are optional.

Where's my commision check 8)

JamesC,
I can vouch for Jonie uniforms product, It is nicely made and durable enough for daily wear, but it was pricey. I recomend Lam kwoon workout pants, I wear them for both Tai Chi and Hung Gar practice, get a belt for sure, and a t-shirt if you feel the need, and with the extra money you saved buy a good practice video. worry about fancy uniforms when to begin to demo for Wing Lam (after you move to sunnyvale).

Does anybody at Lam Kwoon just wear sweatpants with a t-shirt?

I really hope Wing Lam is around betime I get to train at Lam Kwoon, that would suck to finally get to train there and end up with Wing Lam passed away. He doesn't look old so I don't think he'll be going for quite some time though.

Sifu Wing Lam was born in Canton, China in 1947. I'm sure he'll be around for many years to come.

In reference to what we wear, from time to time, people will wear their own T-shirt or pants but we suggest everyone wear the basic unifom. For the reason, read the unifrom section on the etiquette page: http://www.wle.com/school/etiq.html

As for Sifu being around, I too, hope he will be around for a long time. If the Si-gung's are any indicator, we should have him around for a while.

I always had issues in TKD with my uniform getting loose and in the way. With the kung fu uniforms, I always liked the look and my guess at what they feel like. Loose enough is the way to go.
