Training and Music

Postby Zhao Zi Long on Thu Dec 09, 2004 9:33 pm

Here's something to think about.
What type of music do you listen to when you train? I find that if I listen to some Oldies it really gets me going. And the soundtrack from Hero and Braveheart. How about the rest of you guys?

At the kwoon we play some of the stuff that is available here on the site. At one point, I remember we had the same stuff that's on the videos. During sparring, some of the guys like stuff a bit angrier  .
Avoid dogmatism in anything. Be open to the possiblity that what you were taught or what you think may, in fact, be completely wrong.

No music for me. I find it easier to focus on my body when it is silent.

you mean the wong fei hung theme? I can never find a place to download that song ><

As for me, im more or less as BBC on this one. Quiet is best (for me atleast) when i practice my forms, do qigong or meditate.

The Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon soundtrack is pretty good. And Eye of the Tiger! Holy cow that song rocks! I applied for some jobs today, so I might be able to buy that Three Section Staff v.s. Spear video finally.

I have that song. If you read Chinese I can tell you where to download it. Otherwise I can try to email it to you. It's like 4 MB though, not sure if it'll work but we can try. :D

And I like to train without music. Otherwise my heartbeat and breath will end up entrained with the rhythm. When I'm doing my forms I don't want to look like I'm doing cardio kickboxing!

URL, try this first, if it doesn't work we can email.

Click here (or copy the whole link to your address bar):
http://mp3.baidu.com/m?tn=baidump3&ct=1 ... F%E9&lm=-1

You'll see a whole list of available downloads. Not all links work, not all versions or formats are desirable, you can try downloading the MP3s by right clicking on the red part and do a "save target as" ... Unfortunately the descriptions don't always match the links. I tried unsuccessfully just now to find the MP3 of the George Lam version because I think it's the best. There is also a Jackie Chan version, but with all due respect, the guy cannot sing and his voice cannot do justice to either the music or the lyrics. If you'd like the George Lam version I can email it to you.

This song is actually one of the hottest downloads because it's the work of famed lyricist James Wong, who passed away a few weeks ago. The guy was a genius and I wish you could understand Chinese because his lyrics are always of the highest literary merit, unlike the general trash you get from C-pop these days.

RIP James Wong.

Thanks pea spot. I got two songs, they seem alright to me. But i am wondering one thing. Who sings or wrote the lyrics for the version at the end of Once upon a time in china 3? I accutly got to read the lyrics of that one (not sure if lyrics change between the versions or not) and i enjoyed them alot.

I just went to look at the credits of OUATIC 3 - the lyrics stay the same, it's sung by 5 guys, but I don't recognize any of the names, so they're not big shots. Did you download this version? If you go back to the link, scroll down and click on page 3, you can find this group version. Let me know if you need help finding it. I like this version too. 8)

Try #73, it's a 4.2 M mp3, this one is in mandarin but the arrangement is excellent - the drums in the beginning are great!

Sh*t, I just noticed that the numbers shift so it's no longer #73, just look for the 4.2 M file size.
