In July of 2002, Sifu Wing Lam led a tour of students into the heart of China in a pilgrimage to seek out the origin of their martial studies. Tracing a path from Beijing to the country's spiritual centres and back, China's wonders unfolded, engaging and enriching the participants both martially and spiritually. China's history, culture, society and landscape were all revealed throughout their travels, as were the great changes now taking place across the Chinese nation. Now through their video log you can share in their experience of journey across this ancient land! Join Sifu Lam and his students as they learn
about their art and about China itself. This special two tape series opens a window onto their expedition as it chronicles the tour's path across China.
Journey to the Origin -- Part 1
Starting at the San Francisco Airport, travel with the students as they begin their journey to China and cross the countryside to arrive at the Shaolin Temple, the birthplace of Kung Fu. After viewing a local demonstration, follow as the tour trains hard at the private school run by Grandmaster Lian Yiquan. A visit to the Shaolin Temple proper begins with a visit to the Pagoda Forest before exploring the temple itself, which has existed since 495 CE. Capping the visit, the students hike up Mount Song to visit Ta-Mo's cave. After their time at Shaolin, the group travels to Luoyang to visit the famed White Horse temple, the Longmen Grottos and one of the three Guanlin temples, paying homage to Kung Fu's patron saint, General Guan.
Journey to the Origin -- Part 2
Awakening in a postcard, the students begin their stay at Wudangshan. Surrounded by exquisite lush countryside and mountains, they are instructed in the internal style of Wudang Fist at the Fuzhen Temple. A visit to the Purple Heaven Palace begins a day of exploration crowned with a journey to the
Golden Palace delicately perched atop the Heaven Pillar Peak. To round out the trip, the tour returns to spend several days enjoying the sights and vibrancy of Beijing. Visits to the Great Wall, the Ming Tombs and the Forbidden City are interspersed with shopping and tours of China's major crafts industries such as Jade, Pearl and Cloisonné.
